**Creative Writing WorkshopWrite!** **Write! is all about letting your imagination guide your hand. Join author Karl Drinkwater at the monthly creative writing workshop.** In each session we’ll chat about a writing-related topic, then provide prompts and a theme, and the opportunity to write based on the inspiration. It might be a character sketch, or a piece of description or dialogue. The key thing is that it will be your words, and they’d never have been born if you’d stayed at home that night. Sessions are expertly guided by thought-provoking prompts, offering dedicated time for free-flowing expression. Afterward, participants have the opportunity to share their creations within supportive groups, receiving valuable tips to enhance their writing skills and boost confidence. Whether you’re rediscovering the joy of the creative process or seeking inspiration for your existing project, Write fosters a collaborative and experimental environment. Fuel your next big project with the friendly encouragement and creative energy that defines Write. Open to: **everyone!** It doesn’t matter whether you’ve never written anything before, or if you’re an established author looking for a brief shot of espresso creativity. It’s not a course, so you can attend any or all sessions, as you wish. So come along. We’ll provide inspiration and a supportive group of new friends. All you need to do is bring your pen\*, engage your heid, and write! (\* Of course it’s fine to bring a laptop or gadget instead of pen and paper: words are words, whatever the medium!) **Free Event**. As the days draw in and autumn gives way to winter, join us around the table for an evening of making, gathering and noticing the season. We invite you to join us for the very first Ferlie Seasons gathering. We'll spend a couple of hours exploring the season through a creative printing workshop inspired by the natural world in November, with seasonal bakes, gathered teas and a few stories from the landscape along the way. Seasons is about stepping out of the usual rush for a couple of hours, a chance to gather with good company, to make something, try something new, enjoy good food and conversation, and spend a little time noticing the season around us. For our first evening, Welcoming Winter we'll explore the transition into the darker months through making, seasonal stories and a few of the things that make this time of year special. Your evening includes: A seasonal creative activity For November's edition of Seasons, we will spend time designing and using simple printing techniques to create our own seasonal wrapping paper and cards inspired by the natural world around us. All materials are provided. No previous experience or particular creative ability needed, just come along and have a go. A little seasonal knowledge We'll share some stories, traditions and observations connected to the turning of the year, with a particular focus on Scotland and the landscape around us. Seasonal tea & homemade treats Enjoy a selection of gathered herb teas and homemade seasonal bakes, including foraged ingredients particularly linked with this time of year. A beautiful, cosy setting We'll gather around one long communal table, surrounded by seasonal foliage and the simple details that make an evening feel special. Something to take home You'll leave with something you've made and a small seasonal token from Ferlie to continue the experience at home. Two hours to yourself Perhaps most importantly, this is time away from the usual to-do list. No pressure to be sociable, no expectation to be “good” at making things, just a couple of hours to slow down, try something different and enjoy. No experience necessary You don't need to be “crafty” or know anything about foraging. Everything will be explained and all materials are included. Come on your own or bring a friend. You'll be welcomed either way.

**The Bard’s Beloved Howff: An Intimate Encounter with Robert Burns** There is a particular kind of magic tucked away within the historic closes of Dumfries, but nowhere does the spirit of Scotland’s National Bard linger more tangibly than at The Globe Inn. First opening its doors in 1610, this atmospheric hostelry was Burns’ cherished sanctuary—his "favourite howff." Within these timber-framed walls, he debated, laughed, raised a glass, and scribed some of the most celebrated poetry in the English-speaking world. On The Globe Inn Classic Tour, history is not merely recited from a distance—it is felt in every floorboard, whisper, and stone. **Step Beyond the Veil of Time** Guided by acclaimed, award-winning storyteller Kathleen Cronie, this 1-hour tour invites you to cross the threshold into Burns’ inner circle. It is an immersive journey that strips away the marble monument to reveal the living, breathing humanity of the poet: **The Poet’s Chair:** Experience the quiet thrill of sitting in the very chair where Burns spent countless evenings holding court, musing on liberty, love, and life. **Verses Etched in Glass:** Lean in to trace the delicate, surviving lines that Burns inscribed with a diamond stylus directly into the original tavern windowpanes—enduring poetic fragments that remain exactly where his hand left them more than 200 years ago. **Vivid Heritage & Artistry:** Marvel at the stunning stained glass that illuminates the Inn’s storied corners, and soak up the rare ambience of rooms that have welcomed poets, locals, and wanderers for over four centuries. Come for the poetry, stay for the spirits of the past, and leave with a profound connection to Scotland’s greatest cultural icon. **Times and tickets** - **11:00** — Classic Burns Tour Child £5, Classic Burns Tour Adult £10, Tri-Site Adult Tour £35, Tri-Site Child Tour £15 - **13:30** — Classic Burns Tour Adult £10, Classic Burns Tour Child £5, Tri-Site Adult Tour £35, Tri-Site Child Tour £15 - **15:00** — Classic Burns Tour Adult £10, Classic Burns Tour Child £5, Tri-Site Adult Tour £35, Tri-Site Child Tour £15

**Film Screening Reel to Reel: Boom For Real: The Late-Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat** **Boom For Real: The Late-Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat \| 2017 \| Sara Driver \| Documentary \| USA \| 15 \| 1 hr 19 mins** The story of how one of the 20th century’s most important artists emerged from the post-punk, b-boy and graffiti scenes of late ’70s New York. BOOM FOR REAL: THE LATE TEENAGE YEARS OF JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT follows Basquiat’s life pre-fame and how New York City, the times, the people and the movements surrounding him formed the artist he became. Using never-before-seen works, writings and photographs, director Sara Driver, who was part of the New York arts scene herself, worked closely and collaboratively with friends and other artists who emerged from that period: Jim Jarmusch, James Nares, Fab Five Freddy, Glenn O’Brien, Kenny Scharf, Lee Quinones, Patricia Field, Luc Sante and many others. Drawing upon their memories and anecdotes, the film also uses period film footage, music and images to visually re-recreate the era, drawing a portrait of Jean-Michel and Downtown New York City -pre AIDS, President Reagan, the real estate and art booms – before anyone was motivated by money and ambition. The definition of fame, success and power were very different than today – to be a penniless but published poet was the height of success, until everything changed in the early 1980s. This is New York City’s story before that change. **Watch the Trailer** [Watch the trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUsy5RObL2U) Reel to Real Cinema is a monthly film space in the Stove Café, featuring an eclectic mixture of conversational films – from artist made shorts to feature length documentaries, locally made to international cinema. The Stove Café will be open from 15:00 – 18:45 with a pre-film dinner option alongside hot drinks and cakes. *Supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network, awarding funding on behalf of Screen Scotland and the BFI National Lottery.* **Accessibility Information** **Access to the Building** Level Access is available at the rear of the building through the adjacent close located to the left-hand side of the Café (when facing the front of the building). **Hearing Loop** We have a hearing loop system installed in the café to support individuals using hearing aids or cochlear implants. **Personalised Assistance** If you have any specific access needs, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to accommodate.
