Independent Living Support (ILS) is a small local charity with bases in Dumfries and Stranraer. Our purpose is to promote “simply surviving to actively thriving” by offering practical, social and emotional support to people from all backgrounds.
The programmes we have developed have been in response to the needs of clients expressed to us. ILS has developed expertise in working effectively with young and vulnerable people. Our culture is a supportive one. The relationships we build are genuine and lasting. Individuals return to us because they know we will listen, be non-judgemental and support their efforts in a way that works for them. Much of this work involves supporting people to re-engage with their communities and to progress towards independence.
Founded in 2002 by a Social Worker and under new management since January 2017. Our services have carved a reputation for integrity, inclusion, friendliness, fairness and warmth. Supporting around 350 people a year across the region we hope to further align our services with our communities.
During 2019, ILS Housing Support Service has:
- Received 334 referrals
- Delivered 13402 hours of support across Dumfries, Nithsdale and Stranraer.
Should you have any comment to make about our services please do not hesitate to contact us, either by phone or email.
